The Phoenix collection

The Israeli art collection of the Phoenix Group is among the most comprehensive and important in Israel, alongside the collections of the major museums. It spans more than a century of work: from the early 20th century, when the Bezalel school was founded in Jerusalem, to the early 21st century.

The collection was founded in the early 1980s on the initiative of Joseph Hackmey (owner and CEO of Phoenix until 2002), an art collector of international standing, who built it with deep knowledge, an insistence on quality and personal ties with the artists. Instead of single pieces, it acquired whole bodies of work, so the development of artists can be followed over the years: from Reuven Rubin and Nachum Gutman, through Yitzhak Danziger, Yosef Zaritsky and Arie Aroch, to Lea Nikel, Moshe Kupferman and Moshe Gershuni.

In 2023, the 75th year of the State, Phoenix management decided to open the collection to the general public as an asset of Israeli culture. Hundreds of works were restored and are now on permanent display at the Phoenix Campus in Rishon LeZion. During the exhibition days, guided tours will take place on the campus, by advance registration.
